The Weissenhof Estate, established in 1927 as part of the building exhibition "Die Wohnung" (The Dwelling), was organized by the Deutscher Werkbund and funded by the city of Stuttgart. In this exhibition, curated under the artistic direction of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, seventeen international architects, including notable figures like Walter Gropius, Hans Scharoun, and Le Corbusier, showcased thirty-three innovative and forward-thinking designs for modern, affordable, and functional living spaces. These buildings were open for both external viewing and interior exploration during the exhibition, after which they were made available for rent by the city. Alongside the model houses at the Weissenhof Estate, three additional exhibition venues focused on modern global building practices, interior design, and building materials and constructions. The exhibition, running for four months, attracted five hundred thousand visitors and gained international recognition.
